It’s been an odd offseason for Seth Curry.
Steph’s brother lingered in free agency for a long time. But then finally, he got a contract with the Golden State Warriors.
Only then, on Saturday, he was waived.
Seth won’t be on the Warriors’ roster on opening night, which at first glance feels like a shock.
Why did the Warriors cut Seth Curry?
It was the plan all along to make this waiver decision with Seth Curry in Golden State.
The Warriors signaled that this was coming by not playing Seth in any preseason games.
But the expectation is that Seth will be back eventually.
The problem? Seth’s salary was just a bit too high to keep his pro-rated veteran’s minimum under the second apron hard cap.
But by bringing Seth back on board at some point in November, the Warriors will stay just under the line.
“I’m not worried about Seth,” Steve Kerr told The San Francisco Chronicle. “He’s not worried about it. He’s coming along nicely.”
It’s not clear exactly what happens to Seth in the meantime. But don’t expect him to sign with any other teams. It seems like all along the Warriors knew this was coming, and they surely communicated it and likely know the exact date they’ll be putting pen to paper again on an updated contract with Steph’s bro.
