Trent Alexander-Arnold free to complete Liverpool reunion after Real Madrid update

⚪ Trent Alexander-Arnold Nears Liverpool Reunion as Real Madrid Injury Update Emerges

Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly on track to make his return for Real Madrid in time for an emotional reunion with Liverpool in the Champions League next month.

The former Reds full-back, who left Anfield for Madrid during the summer, has been sidelined for the past four weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the early minutes of Real’s European clash with Marseille.

Initially ruled out for six weeks, Alexander-Arnold’s recovery is said to be progressing ahead of schedule — raising hopes that he could be fit for the November 4 meeting at Anfield. According to Spanish reports, the 25-year-old is targeting a comeback before Real Madrid’s trip to Merseyside, with four domestic fixtures still to be played beforehand.

The injury came at a frustrating time for the England international, who had just cemented his place in Xabi Alonso’s starting XI. Since his absence, captain Dani Carvajal has reclaimed the right-back role, leaving Alexander-Arnold with a fight on his hands to regain his spot.

That battle for playing time has also affected his international ambitions, with Thomas Tuchel overlooking him for England’s September squad due to lack of minutes.

Despite the setback, the defender remains optimistic about rediscovering his form and fitness — and the upcoming clash with Liverpool offers both a symbolic and personal challenge.

The Liverpool academy graduate made headlines earlier this year when he declined a new long-term deal at Anfield to join Real Madrid, in a move described as “one of the hardest decisions” of his life. Liverpool received around £10 million in compensation to release him early, allowing him to join Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup.

In an interview with GQ España, Alexander-Arnold opened up about the decision:

“It was one of the hardest decisions of my life. Liverpool is my home; it made me who I am. But Madrid felt like the right step at the right time. It was driven by ambition and a desire to challenge myself in a new environment.”

“Playing at the Bernabéu is a special feeling. You can sense the history every time you put on the shirt — it pushes you to give everything.”

His departure, however, left many Liverpool fans divided. Some understood his ambition, while others viewed his exit as a betrayal. He was jeered by sections of the crowd after announcing his decision but received a standing ovation in his final appearance — an emotional farewell against Crystal Palace, where he lingered on the pitch long after the final whistle.

Now, just months later, he is poised to walk out at Anfield again — this time in white, not red.

As he nears full fitness, all eyes will be on whether Alexander-Arnold can recover in time to face his boyhood club in what promises to be one of the most talked-about nights of the Champions League season.
