Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma picked up an ankle injury on Sunday while on international duty with Mali. With proper treatment and physiotherapy, he’s expected to return to light training before the end of the month, though the club is cautious not to rush him back after recently overcoming a knee problem.
The 29-year-old, who nearly joined Fenerbahce during the summer transfer window, was left out of Thomas Frank’s squad for the UEFA Super Cup loss to PSG in August due to a disciplinary matter.
Following his latest setback, Bissouma has received numerous supportive messages from Mali teammates and shared his own encouraging update on Instagram. “Zero regrets,” he wrote. “I loved representing my country and would do it again for the love of Mali. I fell, but I’ll rise again—every challenge is a lesson, every fall a test of faith and strength. This isn’t the end, just the start of a stronger chapter. See you soon.”
Bissouma was also excluded from Tottenham’s Champions League squad in early September. However, manager Thomas Frank stressed that the midfielder still has a future at the club if he performs well in training. “No hard feelings at all,” Frank said. “Train well and there’s always a chance.”
The arrival of Bayern Munich loanee João Palhinha has further limited Bissouma’s opportunities, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall, and Archie Gray currently preferred in midfield.
