Tottenham Hotspur have been met with both encouraging and discouraging developments in their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
According to The Spurs Web, recent reports suggest that Tottenham are eager to bring in a top-class centre-back during the January transfer window.
In the past few days, some outlets have indicated that Spurs have moved ahead in the race to sign Guehi after his proposed switch to Liverpool collapsed on deadline day in the summer. However, the competition for the 25-year-old’s signature remains fierce, with fresh updates shedding light on his potential next move.
Liverpool no longer leading the chase
A report from TRB Football claims that despite Liverpool’s strong interest in the summer, the Merseyside club are not currently leading the race for Guehi. Instead, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United are all reportedly ready to make offers for the defender.
The same report adds that Guehi is attracting serious attention from clubs across Europe, with a “good chance” he could leave the Premier League in January. Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has also described the England international as one of the most sought-after players on the continent.
Harry Kane’s influence could hurt Spurs’ chances
In a surprising twist, Bayern Munich have now joined the race for Guehi — with reports suggesting that former Tottenham star Harry Kane has personally recommended him to the German champions.
Ironically, Kane’s endorsement could end up hindering his old club’s chances of landing the Crystal Palace defender.
