QUEENS MOVE: Mets Set To Hire Kai Correa As New Bench Coach, Bringing Fresh Strategy, Modern Analytics, And A Steady Hand To Carlos Mendoza’s Staff..!!

Mets Reportedly Hire Kai Correa as Bench Coach After Giants, Guardians Stints

The Mets are hiring Kai Correa to be their new bench coach, per a report from Pat Ragazzo. The 37-year-old served as the Giants’ bench coach from 2020 through 2023—and very briefly as the team’s interim manager for the final three games of the 2023 season after San Francisco fired Gabe Kapler.

From there, Correa joined the Cleveland Guardians as their major league field coordinator before adding “director of defense, baserunning, and game strategy” following the 2024 season.

Correa succeeds John Gibbons, who the Mets hired into that position following the 2023 season. And he’s set to become the Mets’ ninth bench coach since the conclusion of the 2015 season.

The Mets seem to be moving relatively quickly in filling out their coaching staff under Carlos Mendoza after every coach other than first base coach—and stolen base tipster of the highest order—Antoan Robinson. Earlier today, Jeff Passan reported that the Mets are bringing Jeff Albert into the dugout as the leader of the team’s major league hitting program with an eye on hiring a complementary hitting coach to work with him.
