Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr provided an update on superstar Steph Curry.
Steph Curry will be entering his 17th NBA season this year and remains the focal point of the Golden State Warriors’ offense. The 37-year-old point guard played in 70 games last season, averaging 32.2 minutes, 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. He also led the NBA for the second straight year in both three-pointers made (4.4) and attempted (11.2), shooting 39.7 percent from deep.
His ability to stretch defenses and create space remains unmatched, and the Warriors will once again rely on his scoring and playmaking to anchor their offensive system. Even as he enters the later stages of his career, Curry’s sharpshooting has remained the best in the NBA.
As the Warriors ramp up for the NBA regular season, Curry has participated in the team’s first two preseason games. He logged 16 minutes on Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 11 points, dishing out three assists and collecting four rebounds as he builds up his workload for the upcoming season.
However, on Saturday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters and revealed that Curry would miss the team’s third preseason game on Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers, noting the point guard was banged up.
“No Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford or Moses Moody tomorrow in Los Angeles. Curry is banged up, per Kerr, but plan is to play Tuesday in Portland,” wrote Anthony Slater of ESPN. As mentioned, Curry’s addition to the inactive list adds to Jimmy Butler, who received an excused absence from Kerr on Friday.
Curry’s brief absence is not expected to impact his availability for the regular season, and Kerr is likely being careful with the franchise’s superstar. Curry’s heavy workload late last season may have contributed to the left hamstring injury that sidelined the aging veteran during the playoffs. His absence proved costly, as the Warriors were eliminated in five games by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Over the course of his career, Curry has earned 11 All-Star selections, 11 All-NBA honors, two scoring titles, two MVP awards and four NBA championships. He is under contract with the Golden State Warriors through the 2026–27 season after signing a one-year, $62.6 million extension in August 2024.
As the Warriors navigate a competitive Western Conference, Curry’s leadership and consistent offensive dominance will be central to their hopes of returning to championship contention.
