Yankees Social Media Spotlight: All hail the 2024 AL MVP and 2024 AL RoY

It’s Sunday once more, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! This week, Major League Baseball brought the 2024 season to an unofficial close by announcing this year’s award winners, which included a pair of Yankees: Aaron Judge won his second career AL MVP, while pitcher Luis Gil beat out teammate Austin Wells to take home Rookie of the Year honors. How did the AL champions celebrate these personal accomplishments? Let’s get started!

King of the Gil

As noted in our introduction, Luis Gil earned this year’s American League Rookie of the Year Award. The Captain — the most recent Yankee to win ROTY honors — immediately took to Instagram to congratulate his teammate.

After the announcement, the right-hander spent the next 24 hours basically sharing every single congratulatory tweet/Instagram post sent his way. Here are just a couple:

The Judge reigns over the American League

A couple of days later, Judge himself received some new hardware, as he was named the 2024 AL MVP. While he was rather characteristically quiet about the award on his own account — choosing instead to thank “my teammates, my family and the fans,” — his teammates, past and present, two-legged and four-pawed, took to their accounts to celebrate his accomplishment.

The Martian Card

Earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Pirates made waves by putting together an insane offer for anyone who can bring them a 1/1 Paul Skenes rookie card for display at their stadium. In response, the Hudson Valley Renegades made this offer for a Martian rookie card:

If anyone pulls this card and gives it to the Renegades we can offer you two (2) General Admission tickets to any April or May home game in the 2025 season, a firm handshake, and admin’s personal copy of Shrek 2 on DVD. https://t.co/p0W557c3rv

Yanks take on UFC

Last weekend, Austin Wells, Clarke Schmidt, and Anthony Volpe attended the big UFC fight. Unfortunately, for reasons which I cannot explain, the Instagram post about this has been deleted, so I cannot share it with you. But it is nice to see our young Bombers hanging out together.
