On Sunday Night Football, the Detroit Lions take on the Kansas City Chiefs, but one Chiefs player is getting punished by the NFL first.
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a tough loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, October 6, which was pretty unexpected, so they’re more motivated than ever to snag a win during their game against the Detroit Lions. At least the Chiefs weren’t the only undefeated team to lose last weekend, since the Eagles also fell from their undefeated position in the NFL.
Now, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Lions at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City isn’t used to being the team with the worse record going into a game, but they’re 2-3, while the Lions are 4-1. Detroit is on fire right now and has won the past for of their NFL games, only losing their opening one.
So, the Chiefs are looking ahead, but going back to last Monday’s game, there was an incident that happened during the game, and the NFL is doing something about it. One Kansas City Chiefs player is being handed a punishment from the NFL for his actions in the Chiefs vs. Jaguars game.
Kansas City Chiefs Player Gets Punished by the NFL
The penalties for the NFL’s Week 5 are in. As it goes, each week, the league penalizes players for their actions in the previous week’s games.
The NFL states on their website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures.” The new roster of players getting hit with punishments goes up every Saturday afternoon.
In the NFL’s report for Week 5, Chiefs player Marquise Brown is fined $12,172 for “unnecessary roughness” for “striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing.” That’s a doozie, but the funds will go to a good cause. According to the NFL, those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”
Kansas City Chiefs Underdogs vs. Detroit Lions
Sunday Night Football is coming, and the Detroit Lions vs. the Kansas City Chiefs game is going to be one of the most watched matchups of the weekend. Sure, the Chiefs always get a lot of eyeballs, but when they’re on Sunday Night Football, it’s even bigger.
CBS Sports has the Lions take this one, though. “The Lions have won four straight games after losing the season opener to the Green Bay Packers, which is actually the longest active win streak in the NFL,” Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports states in a piece out on Thursday, October 9. “Detroit is averaging 40.3 points per contest over this four-game stretch. Is anyone missing Ben Johnson yet?” The answer is “no.”
Steven Taranto also goes with the Lions, stating, “Over the past few years, I’ve gotten the sense that the Lions have been one of the only few teams in the NFL that truly hasn’t been afraid of the Chiefs dynasty.”
No matter who wins, Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff are going to be really fun to watch.
