Tottenham officially signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on 29 August 2025.
The fee is reported at £51.8 million (around €60 million) and he joined on a long-term deal.
Thomas Frank has spoken positively about Simons, praising his flexibility to play both as a number 10 and on the left wing, and his capacity to unlock defenses.
In media and fan discussions, there has been debate about whether Spurs “management” still face a dilemma over Simons’ role, especially given other pressing transfer targets and squad needs.
Some reports had earlier claimed Spurs were eyeing an £84 million signing as a priority for Frank — which suggests ongoing pressure for a marquee acquisition beyond Simons.
The “dilemma” arises because while Simons is clearly a major addition, expectations and pressures remain high. Tottenham cannot rest on that signing alone if they are to compete at top levels — so internal debates likely continue on whether to go after another big-money target.
Frank must balance integrating Simons effectively, managing existing squad roles, and pushing for reinforcements elsewhere (midfield, defense, etc.)
There’s also the financial and negotiation reality: even though Simons has arrived, other targets may carry higher price tags or require complex deals — hence references to that “£84m target.”
