The Kansas City Chiefs have made a massive Travis Kelce announcement before their game against the Detroit Lions.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions are going up against each other in a high-profile game on Sunday, October 12, and this shaping up to be a hot one. Heading into the matchup, the Chiefs are 2-3, while the Lions are 4-1, and it’s going to be a close one at Arrowhead Stadium.

To say the Chiefs have been experiencing a tough start to their season isn’t hyperbole. For a team that’s used to winning multiple championships, it hurts to be 2-3, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and the team can’t be happy about it. The team’s most recent loss was on Monday Night Football on October 6, where they fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chiefs Kingdom expects better, and so do the players and staffers on the field.

So, the Kansas City Chiefs need to do some soul-searching ahead of Sunday’s game, and they will. But, it’s not all doom and gloom. Ahead of the Detroit Lions showdown, the Kansas City Chiefs have announced some historic Kelce news, which should give him some momentum going into Sunday’s game. Not that he needs it, but it’s still nice.

Travis Kelce News From the Kansas City Chiefs

Kelce has officially broken yet another NFL record. On Thursday, October 9, the team announced that Kelce holds the NFL record for the most receptions by a tight end through his first 13 seasons. Jason Witten is just below him. Congrats, “Wood.”

During the Jags game, Kelce also made some special history. With his two-yard touchdown catch against the Jaguars, the popular tight end broke the franchise record for points scored in a career among non-kickers. This was on top of the record that the Chiefs shared during the game, where Kelce racked up the most all-purpose yards in the history of the Chiefs. So, it was a good night for Kelce, even if that didn’t show in the final score

Travis Kelce Talks Taylor Swift Album

The “Wood” reference from earlier, of course, comes from Swift’s new album, which has a song on it called “Wood” that’s about Kelce. On Travis’ “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason, on Wednesday, October 8, he revealed his true feelings about it all.

During the podcast, Jason asked Travis, “How do you feel about ‘Wood?’” Travis simply said, “It’s a great song.”

Jason had to ask a bit more, and he said, “Do you feel. I’m trying to think of the word… not confident… Do you feel cocky about the song ‘Wood?’” he asked. “No,” Travis responded. “Any song that she references me in is very…” But, Jason cut him off, saying, “That’s not just any song. This is a very specific you.”

Then, Travis said, “I love that girl, so what do you mean? Any song that she would reference me in that way…” What a super sweet comment.

Jason kept poking at Travis to get more dirt on the song and its true meaning, but Travis was pretty tight-lipped about it. Maybe it will just have to come out on the next Swift release.
