How long will Jonathan Kuminga remain with the Golden State Warriors after finally re-signing with the organization?

Based on a recent report from an NBA Insider, it may not be for long. The Stein Line’s Jake Fisher recently informed the public that the Warriors are expected to make Kuminga available on the trade market during the upcoming season.

“The mounting expectation, as a result, is that the Warriors will make Kuminga available in the trade market once he becomes eligible to be dealt on Jan. 15 to see what sort of return is out there for the 22-year-old before the Feb. 5 trade deadline,” Fisher wrote Sunday.

“I’m told that the relationship across this bargaining table, after such long-running talks, is certainly strained. How Kuminga fits with the (Jimmy) Butler Era Warriors will thus be one of the key storylines to track through the season’s first few months.”

“If Kuminga struggles to establish a consistent role under Warriors coach Steve Kerr, as he has in the past, his name is destined to be at the forefront of Trade Season speculation.”

The first half of Kuminga’s 2025-26 season with the Warriors will determine his future with the accomplished Western Conference franchise.

A new and improved version of Kuminga (vastly improved perimeter jumper, minimal tunnel vision drives, and better defensive awareness) would likely extend the NBA champion forward’s stay in the Bay.

However, the same non-floor-spacing version of Kuminga, who isn’t a consistent threat from deep and isn’t where he needs to be defensively, would give the Dubs an incentive to part ways with the former lottery pick at the midway point of the year.

Kuminga was relatively quiet in the Warriors’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Lakers, only recording five points, six rebounds, and four assists. Still, it’s far too early to waive the red flag on the 22-year-old’s behalf.
