The Jacksonville Jaguars don’t often get games on Monday Night Football but got a huge one against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2025. This will give them a prime opportunity to show they’re a legitimate contender in Year 1 of the Liam Coen era.
After all, the Chiefs are the Super Bowl runner-up last season and will be among the best teams in the NFL as long as Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are around. Ahead of the game, the Jags are a 3.0-point underdog against the dog but have the talent (and the head coach in place) to potentially pull off the upset.
With that said, there’s one overlooked storyline for the game, one that could end up having an impact on the outcome.
There’s a chance of rain for the Jaguars game vs. the Chiefs on Monday Night
According to NFLWeather, there’s a 25 percent chance of precipitation on Monday Night. Basically, the odds of raining aren’t particularly high, but it shouldn’t be ruled out either.
NFLWeather also projects a temperature of 77 degrees Fahrenheit and 78 percent humidity. On the other hand, it mentions a possibility of thunderstorms during the game, so that’s something worth keeping an eye on.
Back in the opener, the game against the Panthers had to be delayed because of a thunderstorm. The Monday Matchup could also be paused.
How could the wather affect the Jaguars game vs. the Chiefs
Aside from the possibility of a thunderstorm, the weather could impact the Monday Night Football game if it rains, as it makes it difficult to take deep shots. If that’s the case, though, the Jaguars are suited for that kind of conditions.
The Jaguars would surely like Trevor Lawrence to take the reins. But as long as he distributes the ball and avoids turning the ball over, they can center their game plan around Travis Etienne and Bhayshul Tuten.
Four games into the season, Jacksonville ranks fourth in rushing yards and eighth in rushing attempts. Expect them to lean on that formula against the Chiefs, especially if it rains, as it will decrease the possibility of turning the ball over.
So far, neither Etienne nor Tuten has had a fumble this season. That’s encouraging news when you take into account that holding onto the football was a major concern for the latter during the draft process.
Circling back to the weather for the Jaguars game, it’s not a given that it will rain or that there will be a thunderstorm. However, they are well-equipped to withstand the conditions.
