Taylor Swift’s lead single off
#TSTheLifeOfAShowgirl, “The Fate of Ophelia,” nods to her romance with Travis Kelce and how he changed her destiny!

A little literary background: In Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” Ophelia descends into madness after her father, Polonius, is murdered by her lover, Hamlet. She ultimately drowns in a river surrounded by flowers.
In her song, Swift starts off, “I heard you calling on the megaphone / You wanna see me all alone.” Taylor joked in her “New Heights” podcast appearance about how Travis “threw a tantrum” after he didn’t get to give her his phone number on a friendship bracelet at her Kansas City concert.
Taylor sings in the pre-chorus, “I swore my loyalty to me, myself, and I / Right before you lit my sky up.” In the chorus.”
In the chorus, she sings, “Late one night, you dug me out of my grave / and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia.” The chorus continues, “Keep it 100 on the land, the sea, the sky / Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes / Don’t care where the hell you’ve been ‘cause now you’re mine / It’s ‘bout to be the sleepless night you’ve been dreaming of /The fate of Ophelia.”
Back in July, Travis shared off-season photos with Taylor on Instagram, writing, “Kept it 100.” Then, in the “New Heights” episode, Travis said of himself and Taylor, “I’m 87 and she’s 13, and together we make 100. And we keep it 100.”
