šŸ’¬ METS BUZZ: Starling Marte drops an encouraging hint about who he’ll play for in 2026 — optimism returns to Queens, contract talks heat up, and fans can’t stop speculating… is a surprise reunion already in motion?..ll

Mets' Starling Marte offered to play center; wants to stay in Queens

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte may be in his age-36 season, but he has still found a way to produce for the team in his fourth year in Queens.

In the 2025 season, injuries only allowing him to play in 98 games, he hit nine home runs and 34 runs batted in to go along with a .270 batting average. Not much from a designated hitter, but for a player in his late 30s that only played over half the season? It could have been much, much worse.

Marte has been a quiet contribution to the team when healthy, and he’s wanting to continue in that role, if allowed.

“Only God Knows”

In an interview with The Athletic’s Will Sammon, Marte showed very clear signs that he was open to returning to the Mets in a leadership role, continuing to help the younger talent mature in the big leagues.

ā€œOnly God knows, but with continued good health, I’d love to have the opportunity to play at least three or four more years and continue to be part of this team and continue to help the young guys grow,” Marte said.

Marte has proved that he is still effective in the batter’s box, especially against left-handed pitching, and after wrapping up a four-year contract this season, he’ll be looking for another deal.

He won’t be getting anything like what his teammate Juan Soto is seeing from the Mets, but some sort of guarantee is definitely in his future.
