As many Kansas City Chiefs fans have done, along with the rest of the NFL world. weāre spotlighting the back field. Thus far, Patrick Mahomes has been arguably the teamās most effective runner, all things considered.
That isnāt likely to win you many football games on a consistent basis. Now, having Mahomes do his thing in the passing game is an entirely different story. But, this team still needs a consistent run game, and they havenāt seen it just yet.
One recent idea, among many weāve seen recently, is one thatās been floated over the past few months and is now coming to light again. How about the Chiefs go out and make a splash trade to acquire New York Jets star running back Breece Hall?
This trade idea might seem crazy to some, but it actually makes sense.
Breece Hall to the Chiefs would keep the Chiefs atop the list of Super Bowl favorites
Hall is still only 24 years old but on the final year of his rookie contract. The Jets did just see Braelon Allen go down with an injury, so their depth has become a bit limited. However, this team is 0-4 and looking like a far cry from a playoff squad.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, havenāt gotten anywhere near what theyāve needed out of Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt. For some reason, Andy Reid continues to use them more often than not while leaving rookie Brashard Smith on the sidelines. Smith has only seven carries on the year, but he could be in line for more touches soon.
Hall gives the Chiefs everything theyāve been missing in the back field. Heās not only explosive on the ground and in space, but heās a ready and capable receiver as well. Hall would be a huge upgrade within this offense and could offer Mahomes precisely what the team has lacked.
I understand giving Pacheco and Hunt some time to potentially come around, but a few weeks in, weāre just not seeing it.
Whether the Chiefs go out and get someone like Hall or turn their attention to a back like Alvin Kamara, this should be atop Brett Veachās priority list. Kansas City has got to find a difference-maker in their back field, and it sure doesnāt look like that player is currently on their roster.
So far, on the year, Hall has carried it 52 times for 238 yards while catching 13 passes for 108 yards. He has yet to get into the end zone, though. I have a feeling that might change with a move to Kansas City.
