Taylor Swift has hit a new milestone!
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the pop megastar made Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) history by becoming the first and only female artist to surpass 100 million album sales.
“Congrats to @taylorswift on becoming the first and only female artist in history to surpass 100 million RIAA Certified Album Units!” the RIAA captioned an Instagram post.
Per the RIAA website, Swift has sold more than 105 million albums as of Sept. 30.
Her 2014 album 1989 moved the most units with 14 million, while her 2008 record Fearless sold 11 million units. Swift’s 2012 LP Red, her 2006 self-titled debut Taylor Swift and 2024 LP The Tortured Poets Department, moved 8 million units.
To date, the Beatles moved 183 million units, Garth Brooks sold 162 million units, Elvis Presley came in at 146.5 million units and the Eagles sold 120 million units, according to the site.
In August, Swift announced her 12th studio album The Life of a Showgirl during an appearance on her fiancé Travis Kelce and brother Jason Kelce’s podcast New Heights.
“It feels like kind of energetically how my life has felt,” she said of the record at the time. “And this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during [The Eras Tour], which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
The “Fortnight” singer noted she wanted to “glamorize all the different aspects of how that tour felt, and that’s how that felt to be at the end of the night when all this has gone down,” added Swift.
“I hereby invite you to a *dazzling* soirĂ©e, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl: Oct 3 – Oct 5 only in cinemas!” the “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart” artist wrote on Instagram.Added Swift: “Youâll get to see the exclusive world premiere of the music video for my new single âThe Fate of Opheliaâ, along with never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage of how we made it, cut-by-cut explanations of what inspired this music, and the brand new lyric videos from my new album The Life of a Showgirl â€ïžâđ„.”
She also encouraged fans to dress up and dance during the film event.
“Looks like itâs time to brush off that Eras Tour outfit or orange cardigan ⊠Tickets are on sale now. Dancing is optional but very much encouraged đ,” said Swift.
The Life of a Showgirl is out on Friday, Oct. 3.
