After a gloomy 0-2 start, the Kansas City Chiefs are now at the .500 mark following their 37-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Kansas City’s defense has been on a roll over the past three games, and the offense finally caught up in Week 4. The Chiefs scored 37 points against Baltimore, their highest total since Week 3 of the 2023 season. It was a complete effort, as multiple members of each offensive position group made an impact.
The Chiefs’ offense got its confidence and swagger back vs. Ravens
It’s been too long since we’ve seen members of K.C.’s offense smiling and having fun. For the first time this season, there were no sideline spats or scuffles among players and coaches. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had this to say when asked if their was a sense of joy from his unit for the first time in a while.
“Yeah,” Mahomes said. “We’ve been working extremely hard and we want to have success. We’ve been just making little mistakes here and there, and that causes frustration, but at the same time, we’ve been learning from them, and we’ll learn from this game. I think early in the game you saw the one to JuJu (Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster) that got tipped at the line of scrimmage. There’s something you can learn from every game, win or loss. I’ve been proud of the guys and how they’ve responded and want to be even better every single week.”
Mahomes hasn’t had a lot of confidence in his pass catchers or offensive line over the past two years, and for good reason. However, with Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice out, Mahomes has developed a good chemistry with Tyquan Thornton and Hollywood Brown.
With Worthy now back and Rice set to return soon, Mahomes has trust in multiple receivers for the first time since early in his career. He also has the best offensive line since that time, and the rushing attack has show improvement each of the last two games. Things are finally coming together for the Chiefs’ offense not just skill-wise, but being able to cut loose and have fun.
