Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Stop us if this sounds familiar.
The Philadelphia Eagles are in the middle of a winning streak.
Superstar wide receiver A.J. Brown seems like he’s on his best behavior.
The Eagles keep winning but Brown doesn’t get the ball like he wants one game.
Brown doesn’t like it and expresses that in public.
For the second season in a row, Brown took his beef with quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia offense to a public forum, this time after a 31-23 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers improved the Eagles to 4-0 but saw Brown have just 2 receptions for 7 yards on 9 targets.
Brown posted a cryptic message on his official X account following the win — a game in which the Eagles did not complete a pass in the second half.
“If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw,” the post read. “Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.”
It’s a different Brown than we saw the first 3 games of the season and comes just one week after he had a breakout game with 6 receptions for 110 yards and 1 touchdown in a Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
It’s not a different Brown, however, than we saw during the Eagles’ run to a Super Bowl win following the 2024 season.
A Brief History of A.J. Brown Pouting Over Touches
In 2024, Brown called out Hurts, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, after he had just 4 receptions for 43 yards in a Week 14 win over the Carolina Panthers — regardless of the fact it was Philadelphia’s ninth straight victory.
In 2023, Brown and Hurts had what appeared to be an argument over the same issues.
The Eagles signed Brown to a 4-year, $100 million contract extension right after they traded with the Tennessee Titans for him in April 2022, then again to a 3-year, $96 million contract extension in April 2024 that keeps him in Philadelphia through the 2029 season, when Brown will be 32 years old.
In all 3 of his seasons with the Eagles and with Hurts, Brown has been an NFL All-Pro and made 2 Pro Bowls, getting over 1,000 yards receiving each season including going over 1,400 yards each in 2022 and 2023.
Social Media Reacts to Brown Stirring the Pot
The fact Brown was doing his passive aggressive posting following a win is something that might make even the most middle of the road NFL fan’s blood boil.
It might be a little more nuanced than that, however.
“A.J. Brown has every right to be upset about his role in Philadelphia’s offense right now,” The Philly Special’s Anthony DiBona wrote on his official X account. “I’d be concerned if he was content with his role. Some people will be upset because of his tweets but it’s 2025, this is how some professional athletes voice their displeasure now.”
“AJ Brown had 2 back to back seasons of damn near 1500 yards, almost 1100 last season, and missed some games,” X user Ahmir Young wrote. “Dude has been an all pro 3 times, had over 100 yards just last week. On top of all that, won a Super Bowl, and he is still (expletive) crying. Like gah damn.”
