Kansas City Chiefs sensation Travis Kelce is celebrating the recovery of a watch stolen from his $6 million home during a heist by an international crime ring last month.
The precious timepiece was recovered more than 1,400 miles away in Providence, Rhode Island, according to The Sun. The culprits made off with not just Kelce’s first Super Bowl jersey and high-end clothes but also jewellery worth a hefty $100,000, it emerged this month.
The break-in seemed a well-planned act, with homes of other Chiefs players also targetted. Fox 4 in Kansas City divulged that a cool $20k in cash was also taken.
The breach saw damage to a rear entrance at Kelce’s estate. The raid took place when NFL action was taking place- around kickoff for the face-off at Arrowhead Stadium where the Chiefs squared off with the New Orleans Saints.
The thriving quarterback of the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, wasn’t spared by the offenders either. The FBI started an investigation into the incidents in early October, reports the Mirror US.
“Obviously, it’s frustrating,” shared Mahomes with Fox 4 Kansas City. “It’s disappointing, but I can’t get into too many of the details because the investigation is ongoing. But it’s something you don’t want to happen to anybody but obviously yourself.”
The perpetrators are thought to target the homes of athletes while they’re at games, knowing they won’t be home.
Athletes have been advised to enhance their home security. The criminals are suspected of conducting surveillance through “attempted home deliveries” or posing as joggers in the community to gather information on their targets.
The Chiefs are set to play against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, November 24, before hosting the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead on November 29. They will end the year with matches against the Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
