TRADE RUMOR: CARDINALS EYE $260M STAR FOR NICK CASTELLANOS ⚡. An insider hints at a blockbuster move that could instantly reshape the roster hierarchy, shift lineup dynamics, and impact the playoff race. Is this a bold gamble that could redefine St. Louis’ title aspirations, or just preseason chatter?

Looking ahead for the Philadelphia Phillies, there will be some interesting decisions that have to be made over the next few weeks to months. In the short term, the Phillies have some questions to answer regarding the postseason. The offseason will bring other challenges, especially if they fail to win a World Series.

The Phillies can only continue to run this same core back so many times. If they win a World Series, that’ll likely change their thinking. If Philadelphia were to win it all, it makes sense to have most of the core guys back.

If not, someone like Alec Bohm could be traded. Rumors indicated last offseason that the Phillies were considering moving on from Bohm, with Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals being a potential trade option.

Could Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado be traded?

With Arenado expected to be in trade discussions again this winter, Jeff Jones of Belleville News floated the idea of the Cardinals sending Arenado to the Phillies in exchange for Nick Castellanos, which would not only replace a player that many Phillies fans are upset with but also replace Bohm at third.

“It isn’t hard, for example, to see the Philadelphia Phillies as a glaring fit, given their lack of long-term commitment to Alec Bohm at third base, their penchant for chasing star players (many of whom could share the spotlight with Arenado in his later years), and his existing relationships and playing history alongside some of those stars,” Jones wrote.

“If the Phillies are looking to move a disgruntled Nick Castellanos and his $20 million salary for 2026—a player who lacks any trade protection—there seems to be an obvious match, especially since the Cardinals could then look to flip Castellanos, either in the offseason or at the deadline.”

In some sense, Bohm is a tough player to evaluate. However, he’s hitting .283 on the season, has 20-plus home run power, and is only 29 years old.

Factor that in with Arenado not swinging the bat at the level he has for much of his career over the past few seasons and being 34 years old with a massive contract, and it might be better to keep Bohm around.
