🚨EAGLES TRADE RUMORS: With cornerback injuries piling up, the Eagles are being floated as a potential trade suitor, sparking speculation about moves to strengthen their defense and address mounting concerns.

Eagles Floated as Trade Suitor as CB Injuries Begin to Mount

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested head coach Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles could be interested in trading for another cornerback.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a couple changes at cornerback this week. That could be just the beginning of what’s to come in the secondary for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

That’s what ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested while answering a question about which NFL teams need to be the most active in the trade market over the next several weeks.

“Injuries over the next month could be the big determining factor, but I usually start these conversations with the most aggressive general managers,” Fowler wrote. “Philadelphia’s Howie Roseman and Houston’s Nick Caserio have been among the most active dealmakers in recent years.”

Ironically, those two general managers made a trade with each other about five weeks ago. The Eagles acquired wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick from the Texans for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-rounder.

With their next trade, Fowler predicted Roseman and the Eagles to pursue adding a cornerback.

“I still think the Eagles might not be done at cornerback and could survey the market,” concluded Fowler.

That would make a lot of sense given the mounting injuries for Philadelphia at cornerback. On Wednesday, the Eagles placed cornerback Jakorian Bennett on injured reserve.

Furthermore, the Eagles have cornerback Adoree’ Jackson listed as doubtful for Week 4 because of a groin injury.

Eagles to Turn to Kelee Ringo in Week 4?

Second-year defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are the two most important cornerbacks on the Eagles roster. Both are expected to dress against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

But DeJean plays in the slot when the Eagles deploy the nickel package. Through the first three games of 2025, Jackson and Bennett have been the team’s next top two cornerbacks. Jackson has played about 66% of the team’s defensive snaps while Bennett has been on the field for 12.83% of them.

It’s likely, though, that neither will be on the field against the Buccaneers. Third-year defensive back Kelee Ringo, who has only played on special teams this season, is the next man up.

“The Eagles are turning to Ringo because who else is left to line up opposite Quinyon Mitchell? They have rookie Mac McWilliams, who, like Ringo, has yet to take a defensive snap, and they added defensive back Parry Nickerson to the 53-man roster,” wrote SI on Eagles’ Ed Kracz.

Ringo started four games as a rookie during 2023. However, he’s started just one of Philadelphia’s past 20 contests. During that stretch, Ringo has only received 112 defensive snaps.

If Jackson and Bennett will each miss an extended period of time, it would make sense for the Eagles to pursue cornerback options on the trade market.

Which CB Could the Eagles Target on Trade Market?

Fowler didn’t offer a specific cornerback for the Eagles to pursue. More than likely, that’s because it’s a little too early to be determining trade deadline targets.

Fowler mentioned the Texans because they are 0-3. Other 0-3 teams or clubs not expected to be contending for the playoffs are the most likely trade partners for the Eagles.

In about a month, it will be much clearer who those teams will be at the 2025 NFL trade deadline.

On Thursday, Clutch Points’ Bailey Bassett named Atlanta Falcons cornerback Mike Ford Jr. a potential target.

“Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are exciting young players, but the depth behind them and Adoree Jackson could be tested this season,” Bassett wrote. “The Falcons have some young cornerbacks, so perhaps they’d be willing to part with Mike Ford Jr.”

Ford is a reserve cornerback for the Falcons who has only been used on special teams this season. He hasn’t played more than 165 defensive snaps in a season since 2018.

In an ideal world, the Eagles will add a cornerback with more defensive experience. But that will all depend on the trade market.

The Falcons also aren’t guaranteed to be sellers. Atlanta suffered a blowout loss in Week 3, but pundits expected the team to be more competitive in 2025 than they’ve been to open this season.
