🚨 CRISIS ALERT: The Cowboys suffer a crushing blow losing depth at cornerback at the absolute worst time leaving the defense exposed and fans bracing for a nightmare stretch ahead

Cowboys Just Lost Depth at CB at Worst Possible Time

The Dallas Cowboys can’t afford to lose more depth in their already shaky secondary.

The Dallas Cowboys need as much help as they can get in the secondary.

After allowing New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson to put up 37 points and 450 passing yards and Caleb Williams to throw for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns in back-to-back weeks, it’s clear that the Cowboys’ defensive backs are not getting the job done.

That’s why the Houston Texans may have given them a blow they just couldn’t afford right now. According to a report by ESPN’s D.J. Bien-Aime, the Texans have signed cornerback Zion Childress off the Cowboys’ practice squad.

The Texans had an opening in their secondary after releasing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who, ironically, could be of big help in Dallas.

Cowboys Lose CB Zion Childress at Worst Time

Even if he didn’t see a ton of playing time, losing Childress isn’t ideal given the Cowboys’ secondary situation.

Cornerback DaRon Bland is still injured, Trevon Diggs isn’t playing up to snuff while being banged up, and the unit is currently playing to a 45.6 Pro Football Focus coverage grade — the sixth-worst mark in the NFL.

The Cowboys signed Childress as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky. He was one of the final roster cuts, but they kept him around in the practice squad, and they even elevated him twice so far (albeit only for special teams situations).

At least, it’s not all bad news for head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s team. After missing the past two games and watching the defense get absolutely tormented in back-to-back weeks, Bland might finally be back out there in Week 4, per owner/general manager Jerry Jones. He’s their top cornerback, so it would be a massive reinforcement against the Green Bay Packers.

As for Diggs, his status for Sunday’s contest is still up in the air. He’s dealing with a shoulder injury, and given his history of ailments, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the team err on the side of caution with him.

Still, he’s left plenty to be desired in the first three games of the season. As much money as he’s making, the sad truth is that Matt Eberflus’ defense might actually be better off with him off the field than on it.

Needless to say, the Cowboys’ DB situation is far from ideal, and losing Childress to the other Texas franchise doesn’t help America’s Team in the slightest.
