Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs secured their first win of the 2025 NFL season in Week 3, taking down Russell Wilson and the New York Giants 22-9 on “Sunday Night Football.” Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a nice night, completing 22-of-37 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown, despite facing constant pressure from one of the better defensive fronts in the NFL.
Through three games in 2025, Mahomes has only been sacked six times, one of the lower marks in the NFL. However, the two-time NFL MVP always seems to be running for his life or taking hits. The Chiefs’ offensive line woes go further than that, totaling nine penalties through three games.
In fact, right tackle Jawaan Taylor accounts for six of those, including two false starts and three holds, tied for the most penalties in the NFL. Taylor also finished tied for the second-most penalties in 2024 with 14.
Despite the penalties Taylor has accumulated, the right tackle has yet to allow a sack this season. Reid acknowledged as much on Wednesday, praising Taylor and suggesting no change at the position is coming.
“You know, when he doesn’t have the penalties, his percentage has been good,” Reid said of Taylor. “You could argue he’s one of the better tackles in his pass protection game, so I’m conscious of that, and then I’ll take care of it from there.”
Reid also noted that he thought the win over the Giants was one of his offensive line’s “better games,” particularly in run blocking.

Despite Reid’s confidence in Taylor, Chiefs fans were left unhappy on the coach’s decision, taking to social media to leave their thoughts.
“It’s irritating to see this. It doesn’t matter how good his tackle play has been based off percentages. He has single-handedly been the cause of taking points off the board for the offense due to his penalties and part of the reason the Chiefs are 1-2 vs possibly being 3-0,” one fan said.
“I know Andy won’t throw any player under the bus. He got beat badly a few times,” added another.
“But there’s literally always penalties,” wrote a third.
“That’s the problem, Andy. The penalties are a constant issue,” commented a fourth.
“Ugh. Andy, C’mon man!” added a fifth.
“Having to say this to defend a player is absolutely insane lmao,” posted a sixth.
Reid and the Chiefs will look to make it two straight wins in Week 4 when they host Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
