The Miami Heat are unlikely to finalize a contract extension with their star guard before the October 20 deadline.
The Miami Heat and guard Tyler Herro appear unlikely to finalize a contract extension before the October 20 deadline, according to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.
Tyler Herro
Position: | SG, PG |
Age: | 25 |
Height: | 196 cm |
Weight: | 90 kg |
Birth place: | United States of America |
Herro, 25, recently underwent surgery on his left foot and ankle and remains extension-eligible, but the narrow window for negotiations complicates matters. If no deal is reached, he will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
The former All-Star is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists across 77 games, setting career highs in scoring and playmaking.
A maximum extension would be three years for $149.8 million, but Miami has historically prioritized Bam Adebayo as the franchise cornerstone.

Winderman reports that unless Herro agrees to below-maximum terms, the sides are unlikely to reach an extension.
Herro’s ankle issues have added further uncertainty. He had lingering discomfort since the summer, tried platelet-rich plasma and cortisone injections, and ultimately required surgery.
He is expected to miss training camp and part of the early season, leaving Miami without a key offensive weapon.
