The Kansas City Chiefs notched their first win of the year, getting the better of the New York Giants 22-9, but nothing that Andy Reid’s team did offensively will make the skeptics of this team quieten down.
Defensively, the Chiefs are who we thought they would be: stout. But offensively? Yeah, that’s where the questions are.
After a poor first half against the Giants, as Patrick Mahomes and Co. could only manage nine points, they managed to turn things around in the second half, but it still wasn’t to the standard we have come to expect.
And for CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr, if the offense continues to stutter, then something unimaginable could happen.
“This offense just isn’t good enough to get this team to the expectations the Chiefs are used to,” Kerr wrote. “Kansas City is a good team, but the offense has to be better going forward. If these offensive struggles continue, there will be no playoffs for the Chiefs (which appears unbelievable). The Chiefs are too good to miss the playoffs.”

Patrick Mahomes and offense have to figure things out
Through three weeks, the offense, which is without Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, hasn’t been very good, in fact, one could argue that it might be one of the worst in Mahomes’ tenure.
Yes, there were signs of life in the second half against the Giants, but that won’t cut it against the better teams in the NFL, and with the Baltimore Ravens up next, there is going to have to be a serious uptick in performance.
We aren’t worried about the defense, but offensively? Yeah, there are some serious doubts, which does sound odd given Mahomes is orchestrating things.
But if the Chiefs are to do the unthinkable and miss the playoffs, it won’t be because of the defense; it will lie squarely at the feet of Andy Reid and Mahomes.
