Three logical landing spots for Heat guard Terry Rozier

Three logical landing spots for Heat guard Terry Rozier image

With training camp days away, the Miami Heat are still trying to trade Terry Rozier and his expiring $26.6 million contract. Rozier’s scoring and playmaking skills are attractive to teams looking to bolster their backcourts without long-term commitments. While interest has been limited for Rozier, a few squads stand out as logical fits for the 31-year-old.

Los Angeles Lakers

If the Lakers were willing to fork over some draft capital, they could send Miami a couple of expiring salaries of their own (Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber) to begin to match up the money. The Heat might be interested in reuniting with Vincent, breaking Rozier’s expiring deal into two or three smaller deals, and stealing some draft capital from Los Angeles. Rozier has obviously played with Marcus Smart before on the Boston Celtics. The pair would form an intriguing backup guard corps behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

Utah Jazz

Another potential landing spot is the Utah Jazz, where Rozier could stabilize a young backcourt featuring Keyonte George and Isaiah Collier. Rozier’s “Scary Terry” mode might address Utah’s late-game execution issues, providing some on-ball creation without overshadowing the development of prospects like Walter Clayton Jr. This trade would give the Heat cap relief and perhaps a future pick, while Rozier would thrive in a system like Utah’s that values his combo guard versatility.

Chicago Bulls

Rozier’s expiring deal fits Chicago’s timeline, allowing them to test his fit alongside a bench guard like Ayo Dosunmu without long-term risk. One idea is a Rozier-Nikola Vucevic swap, providing Miami with frontcourt depth in Vucevic to support Bam Adebayo.

It’ll be interesting to see where Rozier lands. His market isn’t exploding, but he’s still valuable, especially on an expiring deal. A trade has to be imminent at this point.
