When the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football in Week 3, each team will be looking to get their first win of the season.
The Chiefs have lost both their games by just one possession. Their defense was dominant in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles, surrendering only 216 yards of total offense.
They will be counting on another strong performance from the unit versus a New York offense that racked up 506 total yards and 37 points on the Dallas Cowboys last week.
The Giants got a new starting quarterback for the 2025 season in veteran Russell Wilson, who the Chiefs know well from his days with the Denver Broncos. While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Chiefs safety Bryan Cook had plenty of praise for Wilson.
“I see him clicking on all cylinders,” Cook said of Wilson. “Trusting in his arm, letting it sling, trusting his guys, getting the ball to his go-to guys as well. I think he found his different type of groove. He’s been league for a few years, and I feel like he found a great combination of having experience, as well as the younger mentality of just playing football and having fun. He’s definitely in his groove, for sure.”
Chiefs’ defense is preparing to face both Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart at QB
The Giants selected Dart with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Dart had an excellent preseason, and is definitely N.Y.’s QB of the future. Ahead of the beginning of the regular season, it was speculated that the Giants would have a package of plays for Dart in each game.
Dart has taken snaps in both games so far, but has yet to do anything of note. He has played a total of three snaps, handing the ball of twice, and running the ball once himself for a gain of -3 yards. Bryan Cook went on to say that the Chiefs’ defense is preparing to see Dart at some point in the game.
“We trust his ability,” Cook said of Dart. “We trust what he showed us in college, and what he’s put on tape, even if it’s not that much. You never want to undermine anybody, because, first and foremost, he’s behind a great quarterback. So, who knows when he’s been told in the locker room. Respect for him will be as high as it is for the starter as well.”
The N.Y. coaching staff will eventually let Dart throw a pass, so the Chiefs will have to be prepared for that. Dart also has the athleticism to make plays with his legs. With the Giants playing at home in a high-profile primetime game, they may dig into their bag of tricks and try some razzle-dazzle.
