The Kansas City Chiefs made a pair of Week 3 roster moves on September 16, according to the NFL transaction log and KSHB 41 beat reporter Nick Jacobs.

The #Chiefs have signed LB Cole Christiansen to the practice squad. KC terminated the practice squad contract of WR Hal Presley.

“The Chiefs have signed LB Cole Christiansen to the practice squad,” Jacobs relayed on Tuesday evening. To free up room for Christiansen, KC “terminated the practice squad contract of WR Hal Presley.”

For those who don’t know, Christiansen is one of Kansas City’s favorite on-again, off-again practice squad reserves and fill-in special teamers. The former Army alum has been seesawing on and off the Chiefs’ roster since 2022, and he has two Super Bowl rings to show for his services.

Prior to his various stints with KC, Christiansen spent some time with the division rival Los Angeles Chargers.

Over the past few years, Christiansen has appeared in 15 regular season games with the Chiefs, as well as 3 playoff outings. He knows special teams coordinator Dave Toub’s operation inside and out at this point, and that seems to be enough for Kansas City to continue bringing him back.

The Week 3 signing is just the latest example.

Chiefs Part Ways With Hal Presley Again at WR

Chiefs Release Rookie WR, Reunite With Staff Favorite to Start Week 3

GettyThe Kansas City Chiefs have terminated the practice squad contract of rookie wide receiver Hal Presley.

Similar to Christiansen, Presley is becoming another go-to practice squad gymnastics candidate for the Chiefs.

The rookie wide receiver first signed with KC this summer after impressing in a tryout. The opportunity occurred just after Justyn Ross requested to be released.

Although Presley failed to make the 53-man roster, he briefly re-signed on a practice squad deal, but it didn’t last.

Since his initial release, Presley has already seesawed on and off the practice squad roster. It’s a safe bet that we have not seen the last of the 6-foot-3 rookie pass-catcher.

As for his background before entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent, Presley spent all four of his collegiate seasons at Baylor. He recorded a career-high 429 receiving yards in 2024, with 1,048 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns over his collegiate career.

Chiefs Rookie Jeffrey Bassa Earns Attention for Special Teams Impact

Speaking of core special teamer linebackers, the Chiefs have found a new one in 2025 fifth-round draft pick Jeffrey Bassa.

Arrowhead Pride writer and analyst Matt Stagner named Bassa as one of his seven “winners” of Week 2, despite Kansas City losing the contest against the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

“The athletic rookie is already contributing on special teams, recording two impact tackles this week,” Stagner explained. Adding: “In Kansas City, that’s the blueprint for a young linebacker to carve out a roster spot when he’s not starting right away.”

Bassa has made a name for himself on Toub’s unit early on as a rookie, but he also displayed some serious instinct and talent on the defensive side this summer.

The Chiefs have a knack for finding and developing linebackers and special teamers, and Bassa appears to be the latest “hit” in both areas. He’ll look to continue his hot start in Week 3.

Ex-Chiefs LB Curtis Jacobs Joins Swayze Bozeman on the Giants

The Chiefs’ Week 3 opponent just added their second former KC linebacker and special teamer on September 16, signing Curtis Jacobs to their practice squad (per New York Daily News reporter Pat Leonard).

Jacobs was another UDFA find at the position who narrowly failed to make the 53-man roster out of camp. He was then claimed off waivers after the cutdown.

Now, Jacobs will join fellow ex-Chiefs cast-off Swayze Bozeman on the Giants. Although there may be a slight bit of gamesmanship at play with NYG signing Bozeman and Jacobs in recent days and weeks, KC’s next opponent does have several injuries at linebacker, so the matchup could just be a coincidence, too.
