🚨COWBOYS ON THE EDGE: If Matt Eberflus can’t turn things around, the next head coach is starting to look painfully obvious, sparking wild fan theories and nonstop debate about Dallas’ future.

Cowboys’ Matt Eberflus Replacement Is Obvious if Struggles Continue

The idea of the Dallas Cowboys firing new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus only two weeks into the season is unquestionably picking up steam.

While there was a level of grace due to the franchise parting ways with Micah Parsons at the start of the season, Sunday’s effort officially wiped away what margin for error there was.

An incredibly limited New York Giants offense put up 37 points, with Russell Wilson appearing to have turned back the clock to the best version of himself.

Wilson was dropping back and tossing moonballs for Malik Nabers to run under and give the Giants the lead. Situational defense wasn’t present as the Cowboys were blown off the field, only able to win thanks to the heroics of Dak Prescott and Brandon Aubrey.

The Dallas defense was in shambles, with the secondary giving up 450 passing yards to a player who was expected to be benched after this game.

Even though the season is young, it’s time for the Cowboys to consider a coaching change.

Cowboys Have an Obvious Matt Eberflus Replacement

If this were Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes, perhaps the reaction from Cowboys fans might be a bit different. \However, the defense was just lit up by an aging quarterback who is clearly on his way out of the league.

The play-calling of Eberflus isn’t living up to expectations, demanding the Cowboys move away from the defensive coordinator.

At this stage of the season, that will look like an in-house hire, with it being far too deep in the year to change schemes or look at outside options.

With this in mind, the Cowboys would be wise to look at current linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi.

The assistant coach has followed Eberflus throughout his career, spending time with the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears before heading to the Lone Star State.

Borgonzi has experience both at the college (Syracuse, Harvard) and pro levels, coaching for the Colts, Cowboys, Bears, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Still, Borgonzi is only 42 and perhaps would bring a fresh energy to the Dallas defense. If this move doesn’t work, Jerry Jones can always look to land a star hire in the 2026 offseason.

It is never easy calling for a coach’s job this early in the season, but it is the reality of a harsh business that Eberflus is clearly failing in. The Cowboys need to send a message that this level of defensive performance simply won’t be tolerated. Firing Eberflus drives this home better than anything.

If this is the path the Cowboys choose to take, there should be zero hesitation in hiring Borgonzi, who has done a nice job with a limited linebacking core and remains the most exciting potential fit. It seems Chicago wasn’t the problem for Eberflus, but a failing coaching system that is continually letting the Cowboys and their fans down.
