The Kansas City Chiefs will look to recover from their first loss of the season and get back in the win column against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
The team decided to add some speed to their receivers room earlier in the week, signing 2022 second-round receiver Tyquan Thornton to their practice squad on Monday.
Following the signing, receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who played with Thornton on the New England Patriots, was looking forward to taking the field with him again.
“Played with him in New England, young dude, loves to work,” Smith-Schuster said. “Another guy who can stretch the field, too. You’ll see him out there doing his thing, so I’m just excited. He’s here to be in the building, excited just to work and just to get it going.”
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes voiced his excitement to get to work with Thornton.
“Just from the highlights that I have seen, I mean, a ton of big-play ability, someone that has a big frame — I didn’t realize how tall he was until he got in the building,” Mahomes said. “I’m excited to see him on the practice field working, and I’m sure guys like [backup quarterback] Carson [Wentz] and them will give him chances downfield and we’ll get to see that speed. I think it’ll be good to get him worked in within the offense and see what he can do.”
It’s unclear if Thornton will be elevated from the practice squad in the future, but it’s apparent that his new teammates are excited to see what he’s capable of in the coming weeks.
