The Miami Heat got their first win of the season against the Charlotte Hornets as the likes of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo put in solid performances to bounce back from the disappointing season-opening loss to the Orlando Magic. Let’s see if they can build on this result and go on a good run of form. The Heat are a solid team when healthy and on form.
Are they Championship contenders though? The same question can be raised about the Golden State Warriors. They have made a blistering start to the season, winning two straight blowouts.
But how will they perform when up against top opposition? It is possible that both could end up looking to add to their roster later on in the season and Ben Simmons has been suggested as a potential option for them, as well as the New York Knicks and the New Orleans Pelicans. Bill Simmons said on his podcast about the Brooklyn Nets guard: “I think he has a chance to become one of the most fascinating February buyout guys in a few years, because he could be the center in New Orleans, he could be an absolutely crazy Draymond Green backup at Golden State, he could be a really fun Heat Culture reclamation project. He’s kind of exactly what the Knicks need.”
Simmons has certainly had one of the most fascinating NBA careers in recent memory. He came into the league as the first overall draft pick from the Philadelphia 76ers and was considered by many as a generational talent. At the start of his career, it looked like that was the case as well. He was the Rookie of the Year, made three straight All-Star teams, made the All-Defensive First Team twice and the All-NBA Third Team on one occasion. Over the last few seasons, his career has been on a steep decline though.
He has had injury problems, there are question marks over his attitude towards the game and it has become pretty clear that he cannot shoot. Even more worryingly, it feels like he is scared to shoot a lot of the time.
