Draymond Green offers sharp criticism of Josh Allen

Draymond Green Declaring That Josh Allen Is "Not That Guy" And Isn't Someone Who Can Lead The Bills To A Championship Might Be The Worst Take Of All Time | Barstool Sports

Draymond Green is bringing his hating to the world of the National Football League.

The Golden State Warriors star Green drew attention this week with some critical comments about Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Green appeared on a podcast with NFL reporter Jordan Schultz and gave a very strong opinion about Allen.

“Josh Allen is a damn good quarterback,” said Green. “But just because he’s a damn good quarterback don’t make him the guy. He’s never going to get it done when it matters the most. And so I don’t care how Herculean of a comeback effort you have at home in Week 1.

“He’s never going to be the guy that’s going to come out and win a championship and be the guy when it matters the most,” Green continued of Allen. “He’s not the guy. Jalen Hurts is the guy. Patty Mahomes is the guy. Josh Allen isn’t the guy … [Bills fans] can go at me all they want. Until [the Bills] win a Super Bowl, I’m right.”

In highlighting the fact that Allen still has yet to win a Super Bowl, Green appears to be applying the NBA’s “rings” standard to the NFL. But that may be an oversimplification, especially when it is much tougher for a single NFL player on a 53-man roster to unilaterally impact winning than it is for a single NBA player on a 15-man roster. While Allen plays the most important position on the field, he is still only able to play on one side of the ball (unlike in the NBA).

Currently the reigning NFL MVP, Allen has also had the misfortune of playing in the same conference as an all-time great in Mahomes (whose Chiefs have knocked Allen’s Bills out of the playoffs in four of the last five years). While Green is right that the 29-year-old Allen will need to win a Super Bowl in order to truly be considered a great himself, Allen deserves his credit too since plenty of evidence suggests that he may be the most complete all-around QB in football right now.
